It was then   established as Farouk I University in Alexandria according to the royal decree on 2nd August 1942 consisting of 7 faculties. Dr. Taha Hussein (Dean of Arabic Literature) was the first to take over the presidency of Alexandria University at that time (1942-1944).On July 1952 it was given the name “Alexandria University”, and since then its role has increased through the establishment of new faculties and specializations. Alexandria University now includes 21 university faculties in addition to 3 postgraduates’ specialized institutes.
